I love your smile,
but in your self-portraits
you never smile--something
about painting yourself painting,
peering into the mirror, trying
to get it right and honest,
a pure looking that sheds passion
like water from a diamond--
That's what I see in your smile,
the one that isn't in this picture,
but maybe is looking at it
from my eyes.
I love your self-portrait--
so serious! Yet I know
I can make it smile.
