Industry On The Dniper

Glowering ember world,
fading to blue-grey ash
above and below a thin smudge
of industry as airily chaotic
as a Turner shipwreck.
Plumes of smoke suggest
these dark smelters forge
a river of molten metal,
darkening the sky
with their darkness,
but they are merely cinders
left behind in the distant damping
of the solar furnace.
