Naked Horse

I'm no good on names of flowers,
and I can never remember the difference
between chestnut and bay, but I like
what light lavishes upon this horse,

and I wonder, if our own flesh made
such rich highlights and dusky dips,
palpably perfect curves, and subtle
gradations of sleekness and darkness

(and if painters among us gave away
this hidden beauty, perhaps on the walls
of community centers), if we could bear
ever again to wear clothes?
