Seattle Neighborhood

Just above Lake Washington,
big lush yards owned by
people posh enough to hire
Japanese gardeners.

We took away only the shapes,
colors, wet flower smells,
air and light, took away more,
perhaps, than was there,

since whatever is is but
seed crystal for the world
we put here: Less is more
if our filled-in blanks
overflow the frame;

took away everything,
depleting nothing.
