Vista From San Juan, WA
Continuous cloud cover diffuses light,
smoothing out shadow, swallowing
most reflections in milk
mirroring milk, muting even
the bright trumpeting
of these foreground flowers.
The water does its job calmly,
wearing the shapes whose shrinking
fills an emptiness with distance.
This light makes everything,
even the far faint blue islands,
cozy--everything's in it, together,
this milky world with,
just off the nigh rocks,
a shimmer of pearl.
