Caribbean Storm Brewing
Odd how the slab of ocean,
the bone-stiff bridge
with its blue and cream lumps of traffic
and, beneath it, the opaque miniature
lapis lazuli continent of stream
stand perfectly still
while all this untamed greenery
(sensing something brewing?)
dashes toward us and leaps!--
held quivering, leaning at our eyes
on the leash of all that attentive stillness.
No wonder the tall four-eyed house
is blue-white with anxiety.
