Rock Study, Great Falls (1999) was painted as three separate studies during a workshop I led that summer during one of the hottest weeks of the year. When I got them home and lined them up on the dresser in the bedroom to look at them, I was struck by the sweep of the three panels together -- how they seemed to capture something of the spirit of the falls -- and I decided to frame them as one. If you look closely, you can see that there are some repetitious elements.
