Hains Point, Cherry Blossoms
oil on canvas
Washington DC has a number of extraordinary cherry trees presented to
the US a number of years ago and lining the Tidal Basin and the area around
Hains Point. Every spring, the trees bloom and the city tries to catch
the peak of the blooming season with an event called the Cherry Blossom
Festival. The older trees (not replaced due to storms) have gotten gnarled
and twisted with age, forming a lovely contrast with the clouds of white
blossoms.
