Louie Bellucchi, the Drummer

September 2, 2003: This painting just won the "Best of Show" award at the Art League of Alexandria monthly juried show at the Torpedo Factory.
This is one of four paintings of Louie I still own. A fifth: Louie, Study in Beige, was unfortunately stolen by a gallery (the Hub Gallery) in Phoenix Arizona. Both gallery and owner simply disappeared. If anyone sees the Louie in Beige, please let me know. I hope that someone bought it and it has a good home. I won't press charges. I promise.
Of the four Louie paintings I still own, this is probably the most commerically viable. After I had painted four paintings, Louie finally requested that I paint him with his drum. Years before, he had been a fairly well-known jazz drummer, played with some luminaries. He couldn't now do the riffs required to perform. But this painting contains both the drum and, behind him, the book, Dianetics, the Modern Science of Mental Health, by L. Ron Hubbard. Louie was an early Dianeticist and Scientologist.
