Scientology, a modern Religion

Scientology. Some religious scholars have noted parallels between Scientology and earlier religions from the far east, most notably some forms of Buddhism. Indeed, it is true that Scientologists believe in an immortal soul that goes through successive lifetimes. On the other hand, it is obvious that Scientology is a completely modern religion. Unlike some cloistered groups in the past, Scientology churches reach out into the society with a wide variety of social programs – from drug education lectures to community clean up programs, from assistance to the ill to helping cure illiteracy. But most fundamentally, Scientology is about helping people – restoring hope, trust and awareness. As its founder, L. Ron Hubbard, once stated, "What is true for you is what you have observed yourself and when you lose that, you have lost everything…. Personal integrity is knowing what you know – what you know is what you know – and to have the courage to know and say what you have observed. And that is integrity and there is no other integrity." Scientology brings this about.
